Banking and Payments

Brand and experience work for money businesses, where trust is earned in the interface.

A Checking Account Is a Commodity

Strip the logo off ten banking product pages and try to match them back. Rates converge, features converge, even the illustration styles converge. What's left to choose on is how it feels to move your money — the onboarding that takes four minutes instead of forty, the error message that explains instead of blames, the statement a human can actually read. In a commodity market, the interface is the brand.

Fintech Set the Bar. Fine.

Neobanks taught customers that finance can feel effortless, then spent heavily learning what banks always knew: trust is slow. The incumbents' advantage is real — decades of it — but it doesn't transfer automatically to an app store listing. The design job is carrying earned trust into interfaces that feel current without feeling casual. Serious, not stiff. Modern, not novelty.

Compliance Is a Given, Not an Excuse

Nearly every financial brand blames its blandness on regulation, and it's almost never true. The rules constrain claims; they don't constrain clarity, tone, or craft. We design inside financial-services review processes without using them as cover for forgettable work. In this category, design quality signals one thing above all: whether you can be trusted with money.
